Impressions of Hardraw, 2009 ...
An interesting fact – Malc Beesley has been on all of the 30 visits to Hardraw.
March - We had two brilliant clear nights. The second night was spectacular with the Milky Way low in the sky and the amazing number of stars visible as soon as you went outside. Some of us have taken to walking up the lane to get a 360 degree sky showing the Milky Way at its very best, from horizon to horizon. M1 was a real treat.
April - The restored Tom Coope 16 inch Dobsonian was put through its paces by Jason Woolley and Chris Hill. It was hugely impressive for Galaxies. A lot of the treasures in and around the Plough were found and admired. The stars in the field were not sharp as expected. We also experimented with one of the flight simulator mirrors the Society had acquired. Quite an experience. During the day, we drove through Gayle towards Kettlewell to look for the site where Salford AS camped near the Limestone pavement for their dark sky site.
November - Cold and very wet. A walk to Hawes (via the force) for a coffee was more than enough!
