Views from the top of Blencathra (meaning the Devil's Peak) are truly inspiring. The mountain is supposed to have been the home of Afallach, a Celtic God of the Underworld.

The mountain itself is huge, towering over the village of Threlkeld between Penrith and Keswick and consists of six separate Fell tops. Its southern side is a most impressive sight; slim ridges protruding from its summit and cascading to the landscape below. On the eastern side is Sharp Edge, above Scales Tarn, a narrow arête, which has claimed the life of many.

Despite its fearsome reputation, the mountain is a wonderful place to sit and admire the Lake District from high above the towns and villages.
