Turn Edge lies very close to Three Shires Head, where the counties of Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire meet at the river Dane. It is reported that many years ago, in the depths of winter, the people of nearby Flash used to make counterfeit money and they would come to the packhorse bridge to exchange this for goods. This fake money became known as 'Flash Money'.

Another story tells of illegal boxing matches being held at Three Shires Head, and when the authorities arrived the participants would simply cross the Dane into another county and therefore escape arrest!
